Notice the text in the upper left
corner. Do we not live in an age when children are no longer
considered an heritage of the Lord? Do we not live in an age
when children are considered anything but a reward from God?
The rest of the text says:As arrows are in the hand of a mighty
man; so are children of the youth.
Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not
be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Ps 127:4-5
Considering our modern attitudes against child bearing one might
wonder if the psalmist was either a fool or some kind of lunatic.
And when I say "our modern attitudes", I am not referring to the
ungodly, un-Christian, non-believer. I'm talking about
Christians. We should expect the materialistic, self-centered
unbeliever to think that way. What is amazing is how
Christianity has been swept away by the World's materialistic,
self-centered philosophy.
It is a sad day when Christianity has
become almost completely influenced by the world rather than
Christianity influencing the world. Where does the idea that
having a small family is better or preferred come from? What
is the rational for having a smaller family? There are any
number of reasons given. Usually such things as wanting to
give them more stuff or having children is so expensive. We
live in the richest country in the history of the world. Our
children will have more than most children could possibly dream of
in any other place in any other generation. The rational
between the person who wants to give them more or thinks they are
too expensive is nothing less than materialism. To put it
another way the New Testament defines this as our modern day worship
of Mammon. Mt 6:24
Other reasons that exist but are usually
not stated is they take to much time and mom can't wait to go back
to work. Rearing children does take a lot of time. But
who has time for it when the father spends all his time in the
pursuit of wealth? Who has time for it when mom is much more
interested in being at work than rearing the next generation of
people? (Which by the way, the next generation of people
is far more important than any "job" mom might do despite what the
world says.)
